Why can't I sleep?
I don't understand it, but for months now I have had trouble sleeping. At first it was falling asleep that was the problem. Now it is staying asleep. I have even tried TylenolPM, but no success. I would be grateful for any suggestions.

The morning after the election, and a few things about me.
Tuesday evening I was so excited, but so tired, that at ten pm I finally went upstairs to go to bed. I did this with a feeling of security, knowing that when I woke up, we would have the new president-elect that I was rooting for. I am so thankful that I was right about this. When I woke the next morning I immediately turned on CNN and was rewarded right away with the good news. I went about my normal routine; make the coffee, take the dogs out, have a smoke, then open the laptop while CNN is on in the back round. As I watched clips of peoples reactions and saw photos from celebrations around the world I started to cry tears of happiness. This is the first time I have had a candidate to vote FOR instead of voting against the other guy. This is also the first time I have seen the whole world take so much interest in our election and then celebrate the outcome. When my husband came downstairs I was quietly sobbing. He became very concerned and asked me what was wrong. As I embraced him I said "Nothing! I'm just happy!". This is one of those profound moments in my life that I will always remember. Some of these moments have been good and some have been horrifying, but all have been enormously important.
And now, the first installment of, A Few Things About Me...
I do not believe in "God" as you do. I am very spiritual, but that is a whole other post.
I do respect your right to believe in any "God" you choose.
I do not think I would ever have an abortion, however, that is easy for me to say since I have never been pregnant.
I do believe in a woman's right to choose. We should all be able to make decisions for ourselves.
I do not believe in creationism.
I do believe in the theory of evolution.
I do not believe that people should be forced to suffer.
I do believe in assisted suicide. People do not force dogs to suffer. Why should humans be forced to?
I do not believe that we are alone in this existence.
I do believe in aliens. It is highly arrogant to assume that we are the most intelligent beings, and if we are, May your "God" help us all.
I do not believe in tax cuts for big oil or any other large corporations that ship jobs to other countries or claim that they have no choice but to raise prices, then post record profits every quarter.
I do believe in tax breaks for the middle class. We are quickly becoming "the poor".
I do not believe in mandatory sentences. They tie the hands of judges and fill our prisons with non-violent criminals, while violent criminals are given time served or time off for "good behavior" because our prisons are over-crowded.
I do believe in legalizing drugs. Make them legal, tax them, regulate them. It would get some of the thugs off the streets, make our cities safer, and lower crime in general.
That's it for now, but there will be more of this in the future.

I am shocked...
...by the level of hate that has been displayed in this country during this election. I guess when my husband says I am "all sunshine and lollipops" he must be right, because I am truely amazed by the hate that is being spewed at the republican rallies. Racism, death threats, fear of islam, cries of "bomb Obama", people who honestly believe that he is a terrorist sympathizer. I cannot beleive how divided we have become. It makes me extrodinarily sad to realize that this country is tearing itself apart. I could honestly cry. I have already informed my bosses that if Obama loses I will be calling out so that I can take a day of mourning. I can't even write cohearant paragraphs right now because I am so terrified that we will lose, and so terrified of what may happen if we win. Obama shows everyday what a great man he is by putting his life on the line so that he can attempt to aid our failing country. He is risking his very LIFE!!! Think about the sacrifice that his family is making. Even if nothing happens to him, they will have to live with this very real threat every minute of every day. I am just so depressed thinking about it. I don't know how to begin to deal with these feelings. If anyone can offer me any advice or any hope, I would be very thankful.

"Joe The Plumber"...
...is an ass! As it turns out, he doesn't even have a plumber's license AND he owes back taxes! Here is a link I found tonight... http://wjz.com/politics/plumber.taxes.registered.2.842376.html
Check it out!
It is now Obama's election to win or lose. I did think McCain did well at the beginning of the night, but he lost his focus and his composure. Obama is a very calm man and I think he will become a great leader for our country.

What a weekend!
Wow! What a busy weekend! First, Thursday night we watched the debate. I must admit that Palin did better than I expected, but I still feel that Biden was the winner, whatever that means. I really got sick of Palin not answering the questions and deciding to talk about whatever she wanted, but I guess that what was her coaches wanted her to do.
Friday night we went to a great place in Mt Vernon called Brewer's Art. The beer was great and the food was awesome. They had these fries that I swear had crack sprinkled on top. They were garlic-rosemary fries and I want more! We got a couple of growlers to go, then we went to Frisco Grill in Columbia to visit our friend Henri. It was really great to see him. Now that Rocky Run has closed I realize just how much I cared about some of the people I worked with.
Saturday was particularly crazy. We did some cleaning, then we decided to re-arrange the living room. We have been meaning to do this for a long time now but never gotten around to it before. We were about 1/3 through the process (with lots of cleaning along the way) when I went to take the cleaning supplies down to the bathroom in the basement. I opened the door and was instantly upset. There was sewage all over the bathroom floor! This happened once before and we called a plumber. My cousins are my plumbers, which is great, but I knew a. I couldn't afford them right now and b. they don't answer their phones on the weekend. So I left them messages anyway and then knocked on my neighbors door. She said she had the same thing happen once and the county fixed it for free. Of course I called the emergency line right away, and I was thrilled with how quickly they responded. They were able to fix the clog, but my wonderful husband had to mop up the mess in the bathroom. I am a very lucky woman! With that taken care of, we were able to get back to the living room. We are both very happy with the way it turned out.
Sunday I joined a bunch of friends for a baby shower. I am not usually a big fan of that kind of event, but I missed my friends so it was a great excuse to get together.
Hopefully I will be able to post within a couple of days of tomorrow nights debate so that I can get back to politics! Just one more month! What will we all do after? It should be interesting!

"I should have been weeping!"
Spoiler alert!!!
Last night kicked off the final season of ER and I, and my husband "Jo" felt that it was not good enough. We have watched the show for many years and we have noticed a trend where they're always messing with the main doctor. First it was Ross, then they f'ed with Dr. Green till they killed him, then Carter, and the list goes on. We knew going into it that someone would die based on the season finale from last year, but when we realized at the beginning of the episode that they were now f'ing with Pratt, my dear husband just kept saying "Don't kill Pratt!". Well, they did, and it was a bit lack-luster. Don't get me wrong, I cried, but they should have done more. It should have been better. We "should have been weeping", as my husband kept saying. I will watch the final season, but I now have low expectations.
